GPXS Mobile Service Manager Provides Efficient Large-Scale Deployment of BlackBerry Patch for Daylight Savings Time Change
Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) February 27, 2007
GPXS, a leading global software and services company delivering BlackBerry® enterprise solutions and expertise, effectively and efficiently manages the large scale deployment of Research In Motion’s (RIM) BlackBerry DST patch via its Condor Mobile Services Manager (MSM) product. RIM is distributing the BlackBerry DST patch to prepare users for the moved-up 2007 Daylight Savings Time (DST) change in the United States. Condor MSM provides a set of tools that will substantially reduce the amount of effort and time to manage the “push” process and that will assure the completion of the deployment of the BlackBerry DST patch in enterprises with large numbers of BlackBerry handhelds.
The work to adjust digital devices to the moved-up date is a looming crisis in the entire digital world. Normally, BlackBerry handhelds, other wireless devices and computers adjust for Daylight Savings Time automatically. This year, due to a special energy-saving move in the US Congress’ Energy Policy Act of 2005, clocks will be set ahead three weeks earlier, on March 11. The implications of this can be significant for both corporate and government networks, which consist of thousands of individual desktops, laptops, servers and mobile devices.
According to RIM, on the BlackBerry.com website (http://www.blackberry.com/select/dst2007/index.shtml): “When the DST dates change in March 2007, BlackBerry® devices will not update their clocks for the affected time zones if no patches for impacted BlackBerry software and third party software are applied. As a result, your BlackBerry device might not display correct time zone information for certain time periods during the year.” The patch needs to be completed by March 10.
Condor Mobile Service Manager is an enterprise-grade secure management platform for managing BlackBerry Enterprise servers, BlackBerry handhelds, services and applications. This proven platform enables large enterprises to manage devices, policies and applications in a secure, controlled way, based on Active Directory information and organizational policies. The MSM allows delegation of role based authorities within organizations with decentralized management structures and greatly reduces the IT staff time necessary to implement and upgrade wireless email and applications usage in enterprises. Since the distribution of the DST patch is in essence an application distribution, the MSM helps IT staffs to easily and successfully manage deployment of the BlackBerry DST patch, just as it does for normal enterprise-wide application deployment.
Allows the system administrator to configure the number of BlackBerrys to which the patch or application will be pushed at each interval; across as many BlackBerry Enterprise Servers as desired;
Runs, hands-off, in the background until all BlackBerrys, including enterprise installations with thousands of users, have the patch; while insuring the system never pushes the application or patch to more than the configured number of users for each BES;
Tracks and logs the status of the deployment for three statuses: 1) Pushed and BlackBerry is waiting to receive 2) Successful 3) Pending;
Automatically generates a one-click report after each push cycle, showing the current status of all BlackBerry handhelds on all BlackBerry Enterprise Servers across entire enterprise.
“The ease and efficiency of enterprise-wide BlackBerry management are already realized by GPXS Condor MSM enterprise customers,” said Jerome H. Mol, CEO of GPXS. “We are happy to make this solution available to help solve the looming problem caused by the Daylight Savings Time move up.”
