The Business Families Foundation Launches a Series of Virtual Learning Online Courses for Business Families and the Professionals Working With Them
The Business Families Foundation (BFF) launches the first of a series of innovative, self-served, self-paced online courses for business family members and the professionals working with them. Business Family FundamentalsTM is initially released in two versions: one for family members and one for the professionals working with business families, both in English. Another version for educators teaching undergraduate and graduate students at university will soon be available. All three versions, initially in English, will also be distributed in Spanish and in French by year-end.
The Business Family Fundamentals online courses provide an in-depth introduction to family business dynamics and governance. They can be taken as a stand-alone learning activity; however, they are most efficient in a blended learning approach that combines virtual learning and in-class teaching at the BFF Affiliate Centres, because they can serve as an excellent preparation before attending face-to-face programs and workshops, or as a wrap-up after attending them. “We are very proud of these new virtual learning courses because not only do they provide a flexible, in-depth learning experience, but they also combine unique multimedia features, including the use of theory, exercises, audio clips, video clips, interactive animation, time for reflection, quizzes and a private space for individuals taking the same online course to connect and exchange together, worldwide,” explains Dr. Pascale Michaud, the President of BFF.
The online courses are asynchronous, meaning that the learner can take, stop and resume the online course at any particular time, anywhere Internet access is available, therefore allowing complete control of time management and privacy, while still connecting with a community of learners taking the same course or pursuing more learning and networking activities at the BFF Affiliate Centres. This means that members of business families can connect with other members of business families taking the Business Family Fundamentals online course for family members. And professionals – whether they are lawyers, accountants, estate planners or others – can connect with other professionals taking the Business Family Fundamentals online course for professionals. The online course for professionals will soon provide credits for continuing education from various accreditation bodies. Moreover, despite being different, the online courses for both professionals and business family members have the same structure and table of contents, thereby ensuring that families and their advisors can engage together in a meaningful educational dialogue.
“With this innovative virtual learning curriculum, BFF sets a completely new quality standard and a new paradigm in the field of family business education worldwide. Every business family member and every professional working with them will benefit tremendously from this learning, which will change their perspectives on what family business truly means,” adds Philippe and Nan-b de Gaspé Beaubien, the founders of BFF and Co-Chairs of the Board.
The BFF online courses were developed with the support of the Virtual University at Tecnológico de Monterrey, which teaches more than 100,000 online students yearly. More BFF online courses will be released throughout the coming months and years, with each new virtual learning offering focusing on a specific set of family business and business family dynamics and governance challenges.
